Coal preparation plant
The coal
before feeding to the combustion chamber it should be prepared as per the
standards i.e., sizing of the coal, drying and removing the iron particles.
Coal
preparation plants includes the following equipment
a) Pulverising
b) Breakers
c) Sizers
d) Dryers
e) Magnetic
separators
Coal
preparation plant. Pulverising machines are used for reducing the size of the
coal to the required size. The capacity of pulverision units is as high as 600
Tons per hour.
Sizers are
used along with crushers and breakers. The coal driers are used in order to
remove the excess free moisture from coal. Hot flue gases are passed through
the coal storage.
The iron
particles from coal are removed with the help of “magnetic separators”. If the
iron particles are not removed will may cause choking the burners and wear of
handling equipment. After collecting the iron particles it will falls off
sooner, and dropped into a reject chute.
Advantages of coal pulverization plant:
1. It is free from clinker and slagging troubles.
2. It become easy to burn wide variety of coal. Low grade coal can be burnt easily.
3. Because of pulverizing coal it requires less percentages of excess air.
4. Rate of combustion can be adjusted easily to meet the varying load
Disadvantages of coal pulverization plant:
1. It requires an additional equipment to pulverize the coal. Hence, the initial and maintenance cost of the equipment is high.
2. Pulverization coal firing produces fly ash (fine dust) which requires a separate fly ash removal equipment.
3. Possibility of explosions. Because the pulverized coal burns like a gas.
4. The furnace for this type of firing has to be carefully designed to with stand for burning the pulverized fuel.
5. In this type of firing it is
desirable to provide water cooled walls for the safety of The furnaces.
